Gold Mining
Hello welcome back to my blog today I am doing a blog about gold mining and the Chinese . The book I am reading is Bright find gold it is a book about mining a long time ago around the 18600.
Here is my work
They would find nuggets from the mountain stream. The miners spent long days shovelling gravel from the streams . They would separate the gold dust from sand and stone miners were forced to extract it from hard rocks Equipment like sluices was expensive and usually owned by companies that employed miners. Some miners would live in the cave . There were no wood for fuel and it took weeks to get the supplies. Near Christmas in 1861 one there were almost 10 thousand prospector in reach Gabriel’s Gully some came from Australia and California.
Here is some more.
China called New Zealand Sun Kum Shan or the New Gold Mountain. Some Chinese miners were rewarded with gold but many remained poor and far away from a home they never saw again. They built small stone house to keep away from the the other miners . Ah Lum saved a British miner from drowning in the Shotover River that made him a hero . He made a shop and sold Chinese teas, medicines, salted garlic, pickled lemons, and shrimp sauce.
